Estuary Debris | Unidentified species

England, August 2017

Dead branches from an unidentified tree species, trapped amongst rock shore defences along the edge of the Severn Estuary.

As moderate south-westerly winds moved the branches, I attached two contact mics to separate sections and listened. Channel 1 (left) revealed an intimate, low-frequency texture evolving proportionately in amplitude with the winds. Channel 2 revealed both an iterative 'knocking' component and a constant, 'scratching' texture.
