I discovered this Roesel's bush cricket stridulating amongst roadside vegetation in the Cotswolds, shortly after parking and exiting my car. Fortunately, I had prepared my audio equipment for immediate recording and set up as quickly as possible approximately 1.5m away from the insect.
Other bush crickets and grasshoppers were stridulating throughout the surrounding hedgerows and meadows on the same day, although their numbers had been significantly reduced due to recent grass cutting.
Various airborne insect species are audible as they pass the parabolic reflector focus.
